[Editor's note] At the beginning of the founding of New China, for the unification of the motherland and the liberation of the people, the Chinese People's Liberation Army sent troops from the Southwest Military Region and Northwest Military Region to implement the central decision to advance toward Tibet from the four directions of Sichuan, Qinghai, Xinjiang, and Yunnan.

The task of marching into Tibet and operating Tibet is mainly assigned to the Eighteenth Army of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.

The troops entering Tibet "backed on the highway", with the spirit of "particularly able to endure hardships, particularly capable of fighting, particularly capable of endurance, particularly capable of unity, and particularly capable of dedication", successfully completed the mission of marching into Tibet and liberating Tibet, and created immortality." The spirit of old Tibet".

After 70 years, representatives of the descendants of the Eighteenth Army from all over the country embarked on the path of their parents' entry into Tibet.

Starting from Chengdu, it took 18 days and a total travel distance of more than 2,000 kilometers. He recalled the glorious journey of the Eighteenth Army into Tibet by repeating the way his father had entered Tibet, and paid tribute to the "Old Tibetan Spirit" of the Eighteenth Army.

China Tibet Net News Wang Qimei, former deputy political commissar of the Eighteenth Army of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.

In 1951, Wang Qimei served as the commander and political commissar of the advance detachment in Tibet. He led the advance detachment of the Eighteenth Army to challenge the limit of life and overcome many difficulties despite the extreme shortage of supplies. Carry out the implementation and maintenance of the "Agreement between the Central People's Government and the Tibetan Local Government on Measures for the Peaceful Liberation of Tibet."

During the long years of liberating Tibet and building Tibet, Wang Qimei and his comrades in arms have conscientiously implemented the Tibet governing strategy formulated by the Party Central Committee and Chairman Mao Zedong, and served the Tibetan people wholeheartedly.

In 1967, Wang Qimei was still concerned about Tibet before his death. He made the only request to the party: "Request the party to send my ashes back to Tibet."

General Wang Qimei spent his life on the horse and built Tibet for a long time. The frontier was his home, loyal to the party, to the people, and to serve the people. After his death, he was loyal to his bones and buried in the snowy area.

As Wang Qimei's daughter, Wang Chang is always worried about his father buried thousands of miles away.

Knowing that the Tibetan people would go to the Qamdo Martyrs Cemetery every year like their families and visit his father, Wang Chang felt relieved.

In 2020, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Qamdo, Wang Chang has embarked on the road of his father’s entry into Tibet with representatives of the descendants of the 18th Army from all over the country and returned to Tibet.

Along the way, the Tibetan people are as cordial and enthusiastic as their relatives.

Witnessing the tremendous changes in Tibet today, Wang Chang was tearful in his eyes, and he sighed from the bottom of his heart: his fathers devoted all their lives to a cause and devoted themselves to death. They are worth it!
