The column, published in the

Journal du Dimanche

, is signed by 150 politicians from all sides.

In an open letter addressed to Emmanuel Macron, they ask for a referendum on the attachment of Loire-Atlantique to Brittany.

In an attempt to convince the President of the Republic, these elected representatives recall the "geographical, historical, economic and human links" which unite Loire-Atlantique to Brittany, as well as "the very numerous surveys (which), for forty years, have showed that around two thirds of the citizens of Loire-Atlantique are in favor of returning from their territory to the Brittany region ”.

We have also sent a meeting request to @j_gourault, Minister of Territorial Cohesion and Relations with Local Authorities.

The collection of signatures is therefore continuing with elected officials of #Bretagne via our site.

They also recall that "in the fall of 2018, a petition requesting a consultation by referendum of voters in Loire-Atlantique on this issue, collected 105,000 written and nominative signatures, or more than 10% of registered voters".

A referendum authorized by law

"A law organizing such a consultation is authorized by the Constitution in its article 72-1, which provides in its paragraph 3: The modification of the limits of the territorial communities can also give rise to the consultation of the voters under the conditions envisaged by the law" , specifies this letter.

“Consequently, write the elected officials, we firmly ask you to initiate the legislative process which will initially allow the voters of Loire-Atlantique to be consulted by referendum on their wish, or not, to join the Brittany region.

"If the result of this first referendum turns out to be favorable to this reunification", the consultation process would then continue, as provided for by law, with the inhabitants of the current Brittany and Pays de la Loire regions, these elected officials conclude.
