Ten years ago, on January 16th, a visually impaired man fell from his platform at Mejiro Station on the JR Yamanote Line and was hit by a train and died.

A man's wife visited the site and joined hands hoping that home safety measures would advance.

On January 16, 2011, at Mejiro Station on the JR Yamanote Line, visually impaired Ms. Takei (42 at the time) fell from her platform and was hit by a train and died.

At the time of the accident, his wife, Etsuko (65), visited her husband's grave on the 16th of her death and handed flowers.

After that, Etsuko, who visited Mejiro Station at the time of the accident, went to the scene with a white sword, and closed her eyes with coffee and sweets that Ms. Mira liked.

At that time, there was no platform door at Mejiro Station to prevent it from falling, but it was installed after the accident.

According to JR East, of the stations on the Yamanote Line, platform doors were installed at only two stations at that time, but now it has increased to 28 stations.

However, it has not been installed in Shinjuku and Shibuya yet.

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the number of stations nationwide has nearly doubled in the last 10 years, but it is still only about 10% of the total.

My wife, Etsuko, said, "I'm glad that the number of platform doors has increased, but since it hasn't been installed at stations with many users such as Shinjuku and Shibuya, my husband is cheering me on. I think. I hope that no one will have an accident like my husband in the future. "

After Mr. Takei's accident, visually impaired people fell from their homes one after another, and 18 people had died by last year, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism is asking railway companies to accelerate the pace of platform door installation.
