The leaders of the French Council of Muslim Worship (CFCM) announced this Saturday that they had reached an agreement on a "charter of principles" of Islam in France which notably reaffirms gender equality and the "compatibility" of the Muslim faith with the Republic.

This charter, at the origin of a crisis within the CFCM, was presented to the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin who hailed a "very significant advance".

It must now be approved by all the federations of the CFCM before being sent to President Emmanuel Macron, the body said in a press release.
