The mayors of Dijon, François Rebsamen, and of Besançon, Anne Vignot, two of the cities most affected in France by the Covid-19, denounced this Saturday "the deficiency of the central state" in the delivery of vaccines.

"Even though we are in the heart of the Region of France most affected by the Covid", write François Rebsamen (PS) and Anne Vignot (EELV) in a press release.

"At the current rate of delivery, it will take more than four and a half months to vaccinate only people over 75 years old," they joke, "demanding precise information on the vaccine and equipment supply system."

Bourgogne-Franche-Comté is the region of France most affected by the epidemic, with an incidence rate of 275 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the general population, and over 300 for those over 65.

Most departments in the region were among the first to be placed on advanced curfew at 6 p.m.

“We have responded to the President of the Republic's call to 'speed up vaccination'.

As soon as the instructions were received, we mobilized our services and put in place large-scale, immediately operational and costly measures ”, add the mayors.

"They will be underused because the doses of vaccines are now subject to quotas", they regret.

Less than 400,000 injections in France

18,400 people have so far been vaccinated in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, out of a total of nearly 389,000 first injections received in France.

"Are we running out of vaccines?

Are we in need of syringes?

How should we, in the field, interpret the announcements of delivery delays from Pfizer laboratories?

“, Worry François Rebsamen and Anne Vignot.

While the vaccination campaign for the over-75s is due to begin on Monday, the American group Pfizer, associated with the German laboratory BioNTech, warned on Friday that it was not going to be able, until early February, to provide countries from the EU the weekly quantities of Covid-19 vaccine to which it had committed.

But Pfizer announced on Saturday a "plan" which should limit these delivery delays to one week.

"We are amazed at the sometimes even contradictory information transmitted in a trickle and at the last moment", continue the two mayors, who call for "shared transparent information" and "a real association of communities".
