  • The announcement of the creation of three temporary quarries to supply the site of the future Castres-Toulouse motorway creates controversy in the Tarn.

  • Three villages rebel.

  • Opponents have an appointment at the sub-prefecture this Friday.

We would have liked to relaunch the fight against the Castres-Toulouse motorway project, we would not have done it otherwise.

Last June, through posters placed in town halls, the inhabitants of three villages in the Tarn (Montcabrier, Saint-Germain-des-Prés and Villeneuve-lès-Lavaur) discovered that a consultation for the opening of three quarries must take place in the middle of summer.

These temporary structures must extend over 65 hectares, occupied by fields, in order to extract for seven years no less than 2.8 million m3 of earth, and this, to ensure the earthworks of the future highway.

One of the three quarries, that of Montcabrier (16 hectares), particularly worries the villagers, for the noise, pollution and dust it would generate.

Indeed, located at the gates of the village, it will be right at 450 meters from the school which welcomes 75 children.

Local residents and federated farmers

Small problem, the public inquiry of 2017 on the motorway project which was submitted to residents promises that "

the millions of cubic meters in deficit will come from around thirty quarries located within a radius of 30 km

 ”

.

At no time is there any question of new careers, even temporary ones ...

The decision of the declaration of public utility which was taken in 2018 is totally irregular, because in fact it is based on an incomplete impact study and lying

»

, Denounce the members of the Stop Carrière Montcabrier 81 collective, which brings together, under one banner, residents and farmers of the three villages.

The Sub-prefect of Castres receives a delegation of four opponents this Friday at 3 p.m. to address this issue and explore the subject.
