Three cases of the British variant of Covid-19 have been identified in Occitanie, said the Regional Health Agency on Friday.

“These cases concern people with no apparent link between them,” the organization noted in a press release.

Two of them are domiciled in Haute-Garonne, the third in Hérault.

People are "under close medical supervision"

"As soon as their case was reported, and without waiting for the results of these expertises, these people were invited to respect strict isolation at their home," continues the Regional Health Agency, which specifies that "the usual search operations for potential contact cases ”are conducted.

“The situation is at this stage under control for each of these three people, who remain under close medical supervision.

"

The organization indicates that, as elsewhere in France, several reports have given rise in recent weeks in Occitanie to suspected cases linked to a variant of the Covid-19 virus.

Each time, they gave rise to additional expertise.

Thursday, Jean-Philippe Mansuy, a biologist in the virology laboratory at the Toulouse University Hospital (Haute-Garonne), indicated that sequencing was carried out on four samples likely to be variants of Covid-19.
