Botkyrka Cultural School offers leisure activities for children and young people between the ages of 3 and 20 in music, dance, theater and animation.

During the pandemic, they have continued to conduct their business, but at a distance.

The digital distance education has worked well for many students in Botkyrka, but it has also been a challenge for some, especially for the younger children who need a lot of support from their parents and for those who are beginners in their subject.

- It has unfortunately led to Kulturskolan having a reduced number of students, so to get more people to stay and show appreciation to students and parents, we have decided to remove the course fee for this semester, says Robert Aslan (S), culture and the chairman of the leisure committee.

Free for both new and old students

Robert Aslan also sees positive sides to distance education.

- For example, not all children may have the opportunity to get a ride to Kulturskolan, and now they can access it remotely from home, he says.

The free semester applies to both existing students and new ones.

- We hope that the investments we make today result in the culture in Botkyrka is strong even after the pandemic, says Robert Aslan.
