Contamination on the rise, especially among children -

20 Minutes

"A worrying situation".

This is how Delphine Viriot, epidemiologist for Public Health France, sums up the epidemiological point this Friday.

Following the announcement by the Prime Minister of an extension to the entire territory of the curfew at 6 p.m., the weekly figures published by the health agency are interesting to detail.

The indicators, remember, are those for the week of January 4 to 10, 2021. A worrying subject: that of the increase in contamination of children.

"Public Health France will continue this monitoring," promises Delphine Viriot.

Schools will remain open, warned Jean Castex, with arrangements in particular for the canteen and indoor sports activities.

In addition, Olivier Véran announced that a major screening campaign could concern up to 1 million children and teachers per month.

Increase in hospitalizations

Two bad news emerge from this report, this time in terms of total population.

The incidence continues to increase (+ 30%, whereas it was already + 17% the previous week).

And hospitals are already feeling the start of the rebound.

Indeed, hospitalizations for Covid-19 have increased by 19%, while admissions to intensive care are at + 21%.

On January 12, France therefore had 24,737 cases of Covic-19 hospitalized, including 2,688 in intensive care.

We therefore remain around 50% of occupied sheave beds (5,400 in normal times).

In addition, the number of deaths is still around 2,300 over a week, barely more than the previous week.

For comparison, Germany and the UK each had more than 1,200 deaths in 24 hours on Thursday.
