A large-scale operation had been implemented in Bagneux, in the Hauts-de-Seine, to try to contain the spread of the English variant after the positive screening of a school leader.

This Friday, the mayor of the city, Marie-Hélène Amiable (PCF) judged the results "rather reassuring".

Of the 2,100 of the nearly 40,000 inhabitants of the town tested, 11 contracted Covid-19 and, among them, "two cases are subject to special sequencing" because they are suspected of belonging to the British variant, detailed Marie -Hélène Amiable in front of the press.

"Perform tests that make it possible to identify this variant"

The results of these sequencing must be unveiled next week, said Cécile Somarriba, of the Regional Health Agency (ARS) Ile-de-France.

The origin of the contamination of the host is still unknown, also indicated the mayor of Bagneux.

The British variant is known to be more contagious than the original version of the virus, especially among younger people.

"[The host] has not been in Great Britain or been in contact with people who have been in Great Britain", according to the elected.

The ARS has asked the medical analysis laboratories in the region to "carry out tests which make it possible to identify this variant," said one of its representatives during the press conference.

The British "mutant", found today in 1.3% to 1.4% of positive tests for Covid-19, should dominate in two to three months in France: "it is an inevitable switch," says Prof. Bruno Lina, who coordinates the mapping of its circulation at the national level.
