  • A week after the tribute paid to Samuel Paty, a teacher from Lyon was violently attacked by a parent accusing him of Islamophobia.

  • Faced with the lack of support from the administration and the forced departure of this professor, his colleagues went on strike during the return to school in January.

  • Since then, an administrative inspection has been carried out and two students have been transferred to another establishment.

After the assault in Lyon of a history-geography teacher by a father accusing him of Islamophobia, the parent's two children were transferred from an establishment, according to the rectoral.

They left the Battières college on Monday to go to school elsewhere, he said.

What the professor's colleagues demanded during a strike movement observed at the start of the January school year.

In addition, an administrative inspection was carried out to shed light on what happened, the Médiacités site revealed on Wednesday.

This was confirmed Thursday by the Ministry of National Education.

"Objectify the facts"

“This is not a sanction inspection.

It is to objectify the facts and the answer given, he specifies.

We have recently had several cases of threats to the teacher and the idea is to systematize the inspections to have a wider visibility on the treatment of these facts ”.

This procedure has already given rise to interviews at the Collège des Battières (5th arrondissement) and the rectorate, which are continuing this week.

On November 9, a week after the national tribute paid to Samuel Paty, who had himself taught in this college, the professor in question was violently attacked by a father outside the establishment.

He had filed a complaint on November 13 and after hearing the interested parties, who had ruled out any physical violence in their confrontation, the prosecution had closed the procedure.

"A strong institutional response"

Since the altercation, the teacher, on work stoppage, his colleagues and the unions awaited "a strong institutional response" - summons of the family and displacement of the students - which never came according to them.

The rectorate defended itself last week by ensuring that it had done what was necessary by triggering the day of the facts "the protocol of support and follow-up" for the personnel victims of aggression.

Before the Christmas holidays, one of the children at the origin of the episode had also introduced a knife into the college, which had earned him a day of exclusion, sanction deemed again insufficient.

The decision to change the two children of the establishment was taken in agreement with their parents during an interview which took place in the presence of the inspector of the academy last week.
