Sailimu Lake is located in the middle of the Tianshan Mountains in the Bortala Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang. It is an important cold-water fish production base in Xinjiang.

Since 2016, Sailimu Lake has started "winter catching". From then on, from the winter solstice to the beginning of April of the following year, it will be the "winter catching" operation period of Sailim Lake.

On January 13, the day was light, and the outdoor temperature at this time was -25°C.

59-year-old Zhang Demin took his teammates to the next outlet, used a special tool to cut holes in the ice, tied a rope, and prepared to start the net.

In order to protect the ecological balance, fishermen only catch high whitefish weighing more than 700 grams.

Because this fish is particularly delicate, it cannot be caught with large nets, only stick nets.

Zhang Demin's fishing team can catch more than ten nets every day, about one ton.

Sailimu Lake was called "Jinghai" in ancient times. The lake is 2071 meters above sea level, 30 kilometers long from east to west, 25 kilometers wide from north to south, and covers an area of 453 square kilometers.

Every winter, the ice layer of Sailimu Lake is nearly 1 meter thick, and snow covers it, so it is called "Treading Snow to Find Fish".
