On January 17, 1961, Patrice Lumumba, deposed Prime Minister of the Congo, was assassinated.
Arousing widespread international emotion, this death contributed to making the leader a mythical figure in the history of African independence.
On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of this disappearance, RFI offers a series of reports and interviews for more than a week.
She returns to man and myth and tells about the plans scaffolded by his enemies in the Congo, Belgium and the United States.
Publicity
The circumstances of this death have never been fully elucidated and are still up for debate.
As is the place where the hero of independence was assassinated.
A history professor from Lubumbashi claims to have identified it since 2016. Unfortunately, this site has since been partly damaged.
