On the 11th off the coast of Monbetsu City, Hokkaido, a patrol boat of the Maritime Security Department confirmed the drift ice moving southward in the Sea of Okhotsk for the first time this season.

According to the Monbetsu Maritime Security Department, on the afternoon of the 11th, the patrol boat "Sorachi" confirmed drift ice spreading all over the sea and moving south in the Sea of Okhotsk, about 69 km north-northwest of Monbetsu City.

This is the first time a patrol boat has confirmed drift ice this season, and one ice block of drift ice is about 2 meters wide and 50 centimeters to 1 meter thick.

According to the Abashiri Local Meteorological Observatory, the speed of drift ice southward is about the same as normal, but the amount is small.

Also, next week, the wind from the north will be stronger due to the influence of the developed low pressure system, so there is a high possibility that drift ice will approach and berth.
