Cholet has succeeded in preventing the spread of the English variant of Covid.

After three people from England arrived at a septuagenarian, measures were taken to prevent the virus from spreading.

The city hospital thinks it has managed to avoid any cluster.

The triptych "test, alert, protect" seems to have worked in Cholet against the English variant of the virus.

While a Covid-positive patient had been in contact with part of her family from England, all of them managed to isolate themselves before the city's hospital center took over.

Specific measures seem to have made it possible to avoid a cluster and the infected family was able to return home.

This is also the case for the septuagenarian, healed on January 5.

Further analyzes must now determine whether or not it was affected by the English variant of the virus.

A case taken very seriously

It all started with the arrival in France of this family from England on December 21.

Three people are then tested positive for Covid and it is suspected, given their origin, that they are carriers of the so-called English variant.

Analyzes will confirm this later.

The individuals confine themselves to their host, a 70-year-old woman.

On December 29, she was admitted to the Covid unit at Cholet hospital and her case was immediately taken very seriously.

As Pierre Vollot, director of the hospital center, explains, "there were indeed these possible contact cases with a family coming from England so all precautions were taken on the arrival of this patient".

No cluster detected

Additional measures are then taken for its reception.

"She was alone in the room from the start," says Pierre Vollot.

A procedure which is not usual because "when we have patients infected with Covid +, from the moment we know that they are contaminated, we can put them in double rooms without problem. They cannot be contaminated, they already are ".

Twenty tests are being analyzed for other patients and staff, but the establishment assures us: to date, no cluster has been detected there.

"What has been done at the Cholet hospital center allows us to manage this situation to be calm. The situation is under control", concludes Pierre Vollot.
