Did you know that Lumumba was not always called himself that, but that his birth name was Tasumbu Tawosa?

Then, he chose to be called Patrice Émery Lumumba.

While we are commemorating the sixtieth anniversary of the assassination of the former Congolese prime minister, a figure of African independence, a cartoonist from the DRC, Bathy Asimba, is publishing on his own account an album that talks about the other Lumumba: the child, adolescent, man outside politics.

“

There are a lot of publications on Lumumba,

” says Bathy Asimba, the author of the

Lumumba

comic book

.

A man.

A story.

A destiny

.

“

Overall, it goes in the same direction, his political life.

Me, I said to myself

: I will take the aspect of his life that is the most neglected of all.

I left his village at his birth, his schooling, his adolescence ... and finally, he became Lumumba.

But how did he become Lumumba?

Because his birth name is not Patrice, and not even Lumumba.

So, I entered Lumumba's life.

Towards the end, even though I wanted to avoid his political journey, because he ended up being a politician, I didn't want to get bogged down in political stories.

I didn't need that.

I wanted to present the man, as is.

I say it's a shining star that can make lives shine.
