- We searched for the word immigrant in the library database and found 32 novels by authors with self-experienced experiences of immigration, says Barbara Czarniawska.

She is a professor of business administration, active at the interdisciplinary Gothenburg Research Institute, and has done a lot of research on immigration and integration.

She believes that fiction, by reflecting how people think and feel, can increase the understanding of complex societal issues.

Examines why some succeed better

In her latest study, she has turned to fiction to analyze depictions of immigration.

Among other things, the literature can answer why some immigrants succeed better than others, she says.

- It simply depends on what you have in your luggage, she states in the report "Successful in integration?".

Trauma before or after arrival in Sweden, education, language skills - all this plays a role in integration, she says.
