On January 11, the 25th batch of China (Ningxia) aided Benin medical team will go to Benin for a one-and-a-half-year medical aid mission, and the 24th batch of China (Ningxia) aided Benin medical team will soon return to China.

Looking back on the experience of foreign aid for more than a year, Qiao Guangwei, captain of the Roxar detachment of the 24th batch of China (Ningxia) Aid Benin Medical Team, told reporters that helping Benin is something to be proud of.

Create a "new home"

In Benin, malaria, which is mainly transmitted by mosquitoes, is a common local infectious disease.

Because the medical team’s resident building was constructed in 1997, and the screen windows, door curtains and other facilities are old, the team members are facing the risk of being bitten by mosquitoes and contracting malaria.

Qiao Guangwei said that in order to alleviate the worries of the team members, the medical team contacted a local Chinese-funded institution in Benin to help renovate the station.

With the help of Chinese-funded institutions, the medical team painted the interior and exterior walls, installed new screens, cleaned up construction waste, and improved the drainage system. It took 40 days to build a "new home".

"The environment of the resident is better now. There are few cockroaches and almost no mosquitoes can be seen. Everyone feels happy after returning home." Qiao Guangwei said with a smile. The team members are all looking forward to returning to the resident soon after their business trip.

"More importantly, the follow-up medical team can also enjoy the'new home', which is something we are proud of." Qiao Guangwei said.

Establish 3A remote consultation mode

"During our assistance to Benin, we established a 3A remote consultation model, which means that remote consultation can be done at any time, anything, and anywhere." Qiao Guangwei said that the medical team used the WeChat platform to achieve this. "Anytime, Anywhere" of remote consultation.

The establishment of this model originated from a remote consultation and academic exchange meeting in early 2020.

“At that time, we connected with domestic experts in the remote consultation center of Roxa Central Hospital to discuss the conditions of two rare cases of patients in Benin.” Qiao Guangwei said that because of the large number of participants and limited space, the medical team innovated in the hospital conference room. The conference was completed using the multi-party video function of the WeChat platform.

"Since then, we have tried to conduct remote consultation exercises in different scenarios through the WeChat platform, and have achieved satisfactory results." Qiao Guangwei said that after establishing a complete transnational remote consultation process, medical team members even used a mobile phone. It is possible to conduct transnational remote consultations and complete diagnosis and treatment tasks.

"Before Benin was diagnosed with the first case of new coronary pneumonia in March 2020, we formulated a corresponding training program." Qiao Guangwei introduced that the medical team took the initiative to contact the embassy in Benin and some Chinese-funded institutions, and there were more than 300 personnel. The Chinese conducted epidemic prevention knowledge training, and built an "anti-epidemic defense line" for local Chinese.

In addition, the medical team also carried out epidemic prevention training for the Benin-based hospitals, and constructed and improved the nosocomial infection prevention and control procedures of local medical institutions.

"With our assistance, the epidemic prevention work at Roxa Hospital has emerged from scratch. Benin doctors put on masks, hand washing devices are set up at the door of all departments, and all outpatients and inpatients need to undergo registration and nucleic acid testing..." Qiao Guangwei Said that all 14 members of the Roxa medical team also received the anti-epidemic honorary certificate and honorary medal issued by the health department of Benin.

"Under the new crown epidemic, the income of Roxar Central Hospital has not fallen but increased. From January to September 2020, it has increased by 56.83% year-on-year. As a Chinese doctor supporting the hospital, we are very proud." Qiao Guangwei said.

Harvest friendship and recognition

During the more than one year of assisting Benin, the medical team received more than 8,000 outpatient and emergency treatments at three medical points and performed more than 1,000 surgeries, successfully completing the foreign aid mission.

Chinese doctors have won the respect of the people of Benin with their superb medical skills and noble medical ethics, and they have also established close friendships with colleagues in the aided hospitals.

Qiao Guangwei believes that it is very fulfilling to be recognized by colleagues in Benin.

"Now from the dean to the doctor, from the nurse to the driver, when we see us, we will call us "Ami" ("friend" in French)." Qiao Guangwei said, "After learning that we are about to leave Benin, The driver Wasai (transliteration) said to me:'I will cry after you leave.' I told him:'We will come back again.'" (End)
