Demonstration of French caregivers in November -

Hospital practitioners began on Monday an "indefinite strike" to denounce "the inequality" created by the recent reform of the Ségur of health which accelerates the careers of new doctors but not those of those already in post.

Acted in July, the abolition of the first three career steps is favorable to new hires, but those who were recruited before 2020 "see themselves at a disadvantage by four years of seniority compared to their colleagues appointed this year", denounces the National Union extended hospital anesthetists-resuscitators (SNPHARE), at the initiative of this strike.

Great disillusionment of the ancients

"The refusal to grant this career acceleration to invested hospital practitioners, who run a deliquescent public hospital, is a sign of yet another contempt for our supervision", argued the union which calls for "the retroactive application" of "measures seniority count "and" the four-year career acceleration for all practitioners appointed before 2020 ".

"The short-term consequences of this policy are a great disillusionment for hospital practitioners who risk leaving the hospital to obtain the fair recognition they deserve elsewhere," denounced the Young Doctors union in a press release.

Youth too favored?

The unions actually demanded "more attractiveness for young people" with "remuneration at the right level of study", recalled Monday morning Anne Geffroy-Wernet, president of SNPHARE, during an online press conference also with the Association of Emergency Physicians of France (AMUF) and the National Syndicate of Hospital Doctors (SNMH-FO).

But "contrary to what had been announced to us, there was no compensation for this measure for the former, so there is a coexistence of two seniority grids", she explained.

“The irony is that doctors then find themselves doubled by the interns they have trained.

Olivier Véran in defense of the agreement

In a letter dated January 8 addressed to hospital practitioners, the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, defended an agreement, "signed with the majority of your representatives", which "goes well beyond the mere revaluation of your emoluments. "To" take more structuring measures ".

The movement, which concerns all practitioners, will be "very broad", argued the president of SNPHARE, but "we do not want to take patients hostage, so many hospitals will operate almost as usual".

As hospital practitioners are assigned to ensure patient safety, the consequences of this strike will be limited.

The Ministry of Health and the unions had not yet communicated figures on the mobilization Monday in the middle of the day.
