In Saxony-Anhalt, it is no longer mandatory for every person entering from a foreign corona risk area to be quarantined at home.

Since Friday, exceptions have been made for people who can prove that they have fully completed a vaccination against the coronavirus at least 14 days before entry, as announced by the State Ministry of Social Affairs in Magdeburg.

Also excluded are people who can be shown to have been infected with Covid-19 at least three weeks and a maximum of six months ago.

The state refers to the new model quarantine ordinance of the federal government.

According to the Federal Ministry of Health, this has not yet been decided.

The regulation is still the subject of internal government consultations, said a spokesman for Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU).

He did not want to comment on the content of the regulation.

A spokesman for the Federal Ministry of the Interior, which is also responsible for the model ordinance, emphasized the position of Federal Interior Minister Horst Seehofer (CSU), according to which there should be no “privileges” for vaccinated people and therefore no “vaccination through the back door”.

The planned federal ordinance for entry from risk areas is expected to contain exceptions for delivery traffic and commuters.

The spokesman for the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Steve Alter, said on Monday in Berlin.

The coordination on details has not yet been completed.

The German Corona Vaccination Ordinance provides that the vaccination is documented, in the vaccination pass or by a corresponding certificate.

However, the question arises as to what evidence people who have been vaccinated abroad might have to present.

Criticism from Lower Saxony

Only in Saxony-Anhalt was the document evidently understood not as a draft but as already valid.

Lower Saxony criticized the regulations and said on Friday that it would not implement the exceptions.

On request, the Ministry of Social Affairs in Baden-Württemberg announced that it would not make any exceptions to the quarantine for those returning from travel because there are still few and it has not been clarified whether they could still be infectious.

However, the state provides an exception for those who have gone through an infection in the past six months.
