Mountain professionals and elected officials on Friday called on the government to give on January 20, at the meeting fixed by the Prime Minister, a "final" date for the reopening of the ski lifts in order to save the February holidays.

"Deprived of 80% of activity at Christmas, with 1.6 billion euros of lost turnover, which is added to the 1.7 billion already lost in March-April, the mountain territories do not understand" the new postponement of the government's decision, underlines Domaines skiables de France (DSF) in a press release.

"The only way to relaunch reservations"

An opening decision pronounced on this date "is the only way to relaunch a reservation dynamic to succeed in a month of February which weighs 40% of the revenues of a normal year but is already cut off from foreign customers and the closure of restaurants, bars and nightclubs ”, underlines Alexandre Maulin, president of DSF.

"A final date must be given on January 20 at the latest in order to better prepare for the February holidays", adds the National Association of Mayors of Mountain Resorts (ANMSM) which also asks the government to "compensate in full the losses suffered during these last months ”.

"The survival of our economic model and tens of thousands of jobs in our territories are at stake," she concludes.
