Gianni D'Angelo

has passed away at the age of 75, leaving behind an important career and a strong memory among the directors of the

RCS

communication group

to which he was linked in a long professional career and in which he left an indelible personal mark.

A life spent in the heart of RCS, between the eighties and nineties, precisely those who experienced the reconstruction and relaunch of the publishing group.

After a first youth experience at

Rizzoli

, he returned as CEO in 1984, when the

Gemina

holding

took over RCS.

Starting in 1995, he became Managing Director of the magazine area working in collaboration with

Claudio Calabi

, then Managing Director of RCS.

In this phase, D'Angelo had the vision of the need to create a specifically feminine product to complete the

Corriere della Sera

offering

.

Thus was born the idea of launching

Io Donna

, a novel publication that soon found a specific sales and advertising niche suited to its content.

It was then that D'Angelo decided to join his path to that of

Urbano Cairo

, who was then growing his business in the advertising sector.

This was the beginning of a long and fruitful professional collaboration (and friendship on a personal level) with the current president of

RCS Mediagroup

.

These weren't D'Angelo's only visionary bets.

In the latter part of his career, he devoted himself to the international development of the group.

He was one of the main protagonists of the operation that led to the entry of the RCS group into EL MUNDO.

That association was a great success that promoted the two partners and contributed to the growth in Spain of what later became the Editorial Unit.

A bond that still remains today.

The principles that have always guided RCS's Italian headers such as Corriere della Sera fit perfectly with those that EL MUNDO has defended since its foundation.

The commitment to quality, rigorous and courageous journalism has marked the life of these newspapers.

Later, in 2007 the muscle would grow more with the purchase of

Recoletos

, an operation that united the group with leading companies such as

Marca

,

Expansión

,

Telva

or

Actualidad Económica

.

After a long life of fruitful work and in retirement, D'Angelo divided his life between

Crete

(where he had a house) and Portugal, where he had decided to settle.

In

Cascais

, on the cliffs overlooking the Atlantic, where his restless heart stopped beating on

January 6

.
