"Can we agree to call a shovel a shovel from now on?", Dagens Nyheter's editor-in-chief Peter Wolodarski wrote late on Wednesday night on Twitter.

He believes that the storming of the US Parliament Capitolium shows what happens when the media does not mark clearly enough when the outgoing President Donald Trump is lying - especially when he claims that the election would have been rigged.

American media more cautious

"I know you are hurt, we had a choice stolen from us," Donald Trump began his video greeting urging protesters and intruders to go home.

Peter Wolodarski says that major American media have chosen not to broadcast Trump's video in its entirety in the same way as they did in Sweden.

- I saw this morning that SVT has shown Trump's video time and time again without clearly marking that these are lies, he says.

Missed occasional occasions

Michael Kucera, responsible publisher at SVT, says that there may certainly have been occasional occasions where you did not mark, but that it is usually done:

"I think everyone who follows SVT's reporting recognizes the recurring wording we use that Trump's allegations of electoral fraud are incorrect, baseless and dangerous," he says.
