In Tottori City, a traditional event was held in which Nanakusa-gayu was made and wished for abundant five grains while singing the song "Bird Chasing" to drive away the birds that devastated the fields.

In Kawahara Town, Tottori City, a group of local residents is recreating a traditional event called "Tottori Chasing" that was once held at home in accordance with the "Nanakusa no Sekku" on January 7th every year.

On the 6th, about 20 members of the group gathered in a building that recreated a farmhouse in the Edo period, and while hitting a cutting board with seven spring herbs with a kitchen knife or a file, the birds and beasts that devastated the fields were driven away. I sang a song.

Then, all of us enjoyed the freshly made Nanakusa-gayu while praying for a year's five-grain fertility and disease-free breathing.

A woman in her 70s who participated said, "I ate while hoping for the convergence of the new coronavirus."

Local elementary school students also participate every year, but this time the participation was canceled due to the influence of the new coronavirus, and Yukihiko Tani, chairman of the residents' group, said, "Elementary school students will participate next year to take over traditional events. I want you to be in a situation where you can do it. "
