The assault on the Capitol by thousands of Donald Trump supporters to prevent the results of the elections in which

achieved an unappealable victory
from being ratified
, shows to what extent
the risks of populism are not mere rhetoric
.
We now know that the personalism and arrogance that the Republican leader has shown during his four years in office, the contempt for democratic institutions and the constant resort to insult, lies and harassment of the media.
The communication networks were only the prelude to a project that has not hesitated to resort to violence when it has been evicted from power.
The assailants, who have climbed the walls of the building and have violently smashed doors and windows to access the parliamentary offices and interrupt the session, which must have been suspended, waited concentrated in front of the Capitol for a signal from the still head of State and Government American.
The attack occurred at the moment when
Trump
, aware that the vice president
Mike pence
He was going to refuse to annul the result of the November 3 elections - among other things, because it is illegal and because he does not have the powers to do so - he addressed the mob to inflame them by repeating that the elections had been stolen and to qualify the leader Democrat as "an illegitimate president." Vandals have occupied, among others, the offices of the Speaker of the House of Representatives,
Nancy pelosi
, third political leader in the presidential succession, destroying all the furniture that they found in his path.
The legislators were evacuated to a safe place before the mass occupied the building (leaving several wounded, at least one from a bullet) and the Washington city council decreed a curfew for six in the afternoon.
The Department of Defense, whose secretary was removed by Trump after the electoral defeat, refused to send in the military to stop the attack.
Only an hour after it started, and given the drift that the situation was taking, Trump authorized the National Guard to act forcefully against the violent protesters

We are not facing a simple altercation, but a seditious attack on democracy
, product of the polarization of society that Trump has been irresponsibly feeding since he came to power.
After losing the legal battle waged after the count ended in all states, Trump was left with only the option of a violent coup to remain clinging to the presidential chair.
And just fifteen days after the transfer of powers, it has managed to suspend the session that was to ratify the results, creating a situation of unprecedented uncertainty in the main world power.
America's democracies cannot succumb to an attack of this nature
.
Those responsible for the assault must be held accountable to justice and Trump himself must be investigated to find out what his intervention has been in acts that would not have taken place had he accepted his electoral defeat.
