With that impossible name and that look, a mixture of Playboy bunny, past comedian and
springbreaker
,
Hollywood could only put Kaley Cuoco in two lockers:
that of the brides of America and that of the drunken best friends (of America).
But as happens in few and lucky exceptions (Cameron Díaz, Drew Barrymore, Reese ...), Cuoco has been able to be in both places at the same time.
It's what you have to spend your whole life in La Industria ... and have taken
one of those jobs that take away financial worries for life.
For this Californian from 1985,
The Big Bang Theory
has taken the burden of having to look at the balance in mind.
The astronomical salaries of Chuck Lorre's show made all its actors mega-rich
, who can now literally do whatever they want.
Or do nothing.
But like the members of Friends, their equivalents in the previous generation,
the cast of
The Big Bang Theory
is quite restless professionally
outside the series that made them, more than famous (some had already been before), powerful names capable of leading Projects.
Many of them are "the new series of ..." from moment one.
That is not necessarily bad.
The Flight Attendant
is one of those show-off vehicles.
Its creator, Steve Yockey (
Supernatural
) does not have one hundredth of the gravitational force that Kaley Cuoco, protagonist and producer.
In this adaptation of a novel (written by Chris Bohjalian) she is
Cassandra, a flight attendant who wakes up one day next to the corpse of her occasional lover.
Cassandra is a mess of aunt and the mess is serious, but
The Flight Attendant
from the beginning prefers to be
Ocean's Twelve
(saving the distance) than
The Morning After
.
That there are a couple of fancy references to Lumet's film says a lot in favor of Yockey and his series.
In addition,
The Flight Attendant
, without deceiving anyone by going what it is not, knows how to complicate itself and stop being as stupid as it appears at first
.
In the end it is a more than decent series.
Between that and the fact that Cuoco is a lot of Cuoco, the project has gone from miniseries to series:
The Flight Attendant
will have a second season.
He deserves it, because he did not have it so easy.
Many of us got a bit of fingernails.
It is a series that, ten years ago, would have had Sarah Jessica Parker as a claim.
It's that series.
At first, I couldn't stand his tone and his protagonist (like Cameron, like Drew, like Reese ...) by default is irritating to me.
Stewardess Cassandra is too, but that's where part of her grace lies.
It cannot be by chance that Casandra-Kaley is supported by Rosie Perez and Zosia Mamet, queens of comic passive aggressiveness.
Or Michiel Huisman playing a character that could be called a "parody of the characters played by Michiel Huisman
.
"
The Flight Attendant
never ceases to be a product made to the greater glory of its leading lady, producer, and outright diva, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Let them tell the Drews, the Camerons and the Reeses of the world.
Or the Sarah Jessicas.
