  • Subscribers to the Antibes theater (Alpes-Maritimes) will be able to see the performance of their show live on the establishment's website.

  • They can then choose to be reimbursed, to have a credit or to support the structure.

  • Since March 17, 85,000 tickets have had to be refunded.

“We don't want to wait.

We transform politics by offering one show per week per retransmission, ”says Daniel Benoin, director of the theater L'Anthéa d'Antibes.

After the announcements of the non-reopening of cultural centers on December 15, he reflected on alternatives "to maintain the link with spectators".

On Saturday, Clémentine Célarié will launch the season of this initiative with

Une vie

 de Maupassant at 9:30 p.m.

Subscribers will receive a code by email to connect to the theater website and see the show live thanks to a broadcast through four cameras and a director.

Pending further reopening announcements, the performances of one, two or three actors, scheduled in the program, will all be broadcast live on the theater site at the initial schedules.

Monsieur X

with Pierre Richard on January 14 by Mathilda May and

Nouveau spectacle

with Gaspard Proust are concerned.

Daniel Benoin specifies: "If the sanitary conditions do not improve, we will continue to do so".

The end of the 2020-2021 season is, for the moment, set for July 7.

Three possibilities for subscribers

This solution is reserved for subscribers.

It was "too complicated to reopen the ticket office to the public knowing that the establishments are still closed", specifies the director of Anthéa.

"After the broadcast," he says, "the spectator, if he is satisfied and happy with this service, can decide to support the theater by waiving the reimbursement of his ticket.

However, he has the option of requesting a refund, even after having seen the live broadcast, or of requesting a credit for another show, or even for next season.

We are aware that a retransmission has nothing to do with the experience of performing arts ”.

For schoolchildren, the performances will also be broadcast live at the scheduled times.

A theater team will be present with the students to allow a discussion with the actor.

Regarding shows for which Anthéa is the producer, such as

Dr Jekyll and the Hyde mystery

, a performance will be organized for live performance professionals on January 12 at 2:30 p.m.

"This will allow these professionals to see it, buy it and produce it at home next season," adds the director of the establishment.

"Culture is the way out of the crisis"

After two seasons (2019-2020 and 2020-2021) affected by the health crisis, this alternative "allows the theater to exist".

Without external subsidies, such as those from the Casino, this system is possible thanks to the maintenance of aid from local authorities.

Culture for us is essential.

“In these times, you have to know how to innovate,” said the mayor.

“And even if we lose twice between reimbursements and the cost of the event, we have confidence in our audience.

Since June, we are in uncertainty but 11,000 people have subscribed anyway.

We hope that this initiative will be brief but at least it exists.

Culture is the way out of the crisis ”.

“In seven seasons, the theater has managed to become the second largest in France in terms of attendance.

With 20% fewer subscriptions per season, as we have just experienced, I am afraid that we will go backwards ”, concludes Daniel Benoin.

Coronavirus

"We may have returned to the level in 2022", says the director of the Anthéa theater in Antibes.
