More than 20,000 new cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in the past 24 hours in France, where the positivity rate is up slightly, while the number of hospitalizations has slightly decreased, according to data released by Public Health France this Tuesday.

The number of confirmed cases was 20,489 against 4,022 the day before and 12,489 on Sunday, with Monday's figures still marking a low as fewer tests are carried out on weekends.

This daily figure has varied enormously since mid-December, fluctuating between some 3,000 and more than 21,000.

But still far, on average, from the government goal of going down to 5,000 cases per day.

Fewer patients in intensive care

The positivity rate, which measures the percentage of people positive for Covid-19 out of all those tested, increased slightly to 5.4% against 5.2% on Sunday and Monday.

The number of hospitalized patients stands at 24,871, 91 less than on Monday, with 1,747 new hospitalizations in 24 hours.

The number of patients in intensive care is 2,616, or 41 less than the day before, with 245 new admissions.

With 346 deaths in hospital (380 Monday, 116 Sunday), the disease has now killed 66,282 people since the start of the epidemic, specifies the health agency.
