Alexi Laiho, one of the most renowned guitarists in the metal world, has died.
He was only 41 years old.
Laiho, known as the front man of the band Children of Bodom, passed away last week in his home town of Helsinki, Finland, as it became known.
He has suffered from serious health problems in recent years.
No details are known about the exact cause of death.
“Alexi was the most loving and best husband and father.
Our hearts are broken forever, ”says his widow Kelli Wright-Laiho.

Together with drummer Jaska Raatikainen he founded Children Of Bodom in 1993.
The band developed into one of the most celebrated metal acts far beyond Finland - right up to their farewell concert in December 2019. They performed at the largest metal festivals around the world, including the Wacken Open Air in Schleswig-Holstein.

Last year, the band Bodom After Midnight formed under Alexi Laiho.
They recorded three songs and a music video which will now be released posthumously.
In addition to Children Of Bodom, Laiho earned his reputation as a gifted guitarist in other bands such as Sinergy and The Local Band.
Awarded a “Metal Hammer Golden Gods” and numerous other international prizes, he was also the star at the Helsinki Festival 2015. There he led one hundred guitarists in “100 Guitars From Hell” - a concert piece from his pen.

His family has been an important anchor and balance to life on tour, especially in recent years.
