After some strong criticism, the Nuremberg police rejected their approach at a demonstration by Corona opponents.

Although there were administrative offenses, a dissolution of the meeting was still not justified, said police spokeswoman Elke Schönwald.

This is only possible in the case of serious crimes and significant security disruptions.

"Freedom of assembly has constitutional status."

According to the police, around 300 and later around 200 demonstrators protested against the corona restrictions on Sunday in the city center of the Franconian city.

There were also two counter-demonstrations.

According to the police, there were 117 violations of the Infection Protection Act, 50 dismissals and 10 reports of resistance or falsified certificates for exemption from the mask requirement.

In the social media, recordings made the rounds of demonstrators crowded into the main market, some of them not wearing a mask.

The local police chief must decide whether a meeting will be dissolved, said Olaf Kuch, director of city rights.

The room for maneuver is small: "The hurdles that the Federal Constitutional Court sets for the dissolution are very high." The Green parliamentary group in the state parliament disagrees.

"The pictures from Nuremberg are a slap in the face for all people who have adhered to the Corona measures for weeks," said parliamentary group leader Katharina Schulze.
