The mayor (PS) of Nancy, Mathieu Klein, estimated Saturday that the advance of the curfew at 6 p.m. in fifteen departments was a "late and perhaps insufficient" measure to fight against the Covid-19 epidemic which resumed at a "breakneck pace".

"The curfew is a measure which seems to me relatively late and perhaps insufficient but let's hope that it produces effects", declared Mathieu Klein on France Info, a few days after having pleaded for a local reconfinement, like others elected representatives of the Grand-Est, including the president (LR) of the region Jean Rottner and the mayor (LR) of Reims, Arnaud Robinet.

"The situation in Nancy and in the Grand-Est, since the beginning of December, is continuously deteriorating whether it is at the level of the circulation of the virus, at the level of hospital beds or private clinics, so we are in the face of an epidemic which has returned to a frantic pace, ”he declared.

Government spokesman Gabriel Attal announced on Friday the list of 15 departments, including Meurthe-et-Moselle, where the curfew is advanced to 6 p.m. on Saturday, against 8 p.m. in the rest of the country, for attempt to reduce the number of contamination.

"There is a weariness, to get out of it you need clear measures and unfortunately we are still there on an in-between", commented Mathieu Klein.

In Meurthe-et-Moselle, the weekly incidence rate of Covid-19 as of December 29 (latest figures available) was 242.9 per 100,000 inhabitants, against 127.3 nationally.

These figures were 132.9 and 109.6 respectively on December 1.

Also chairman of the supervisory board of the Nancy CHRU, which began to vaccinate its staff and caregivers at home on Thursday, Mathieu Klein called for an "acceleration" of the vaccination campaign in France, deeming "incomprehensible" its current rate.

"There is still time to make up for this feeling of a sluggish start", he said, calling on the government to send the doses "quickly" to "the most affected territories".

"The government is responsible for distributing them over the territory, but the territories are ready," he said.
