From the 1st to the 2nd of New Year's Day, nine elderly people were taken to the hospital with rice cakes stuck in their throats, and a 90-year-old man died.

The Tokyo Fire Department is calling for caution, such as cutting rice cakes into small pieces and eating them.

According to the summary of the Tokyo Fire Department, nine men and women between the ages of 70 and 93 were taken to the hospital with rice cakes stuck in their throats for two days from the 1st to the 2nd of New Year's Day.

Of these, a 90-year-old man from Nishitokyo City ate a rice cake baked at home and clogged his throat, and died at the hospital where he was transported on the 1st.

Also, on the afternoon of the 2nd, when a 78-year-old man in Tama City ate ozoni, he got stuck in his throat and was unconscious.

The Tokyo Fire Department calls for caution, especially when eating rice cakes for the elderly and young children, by cutting them into small pieces and chewing them well.

Also, if you get stuck in your throat, people around you should hit your back strongly to clear the blockage, and if necessary, give a heart massage as soon as possible and call an ambulance.
