Turkmenistan has a "secret weapon" that protects it from the "Covid-19" epidemic, which is the smoke produced by the burning of a plant with alleged medical advantages that the President of the Central Asian country praises, and who confirms that he is immune from the pandemic.

At the school where she teaches in the capital, Ashgabat, Aina Garayeva not only measures the pupils' temperature, but she regularly fumigates the class with cochineal, which is a plant that President Kurban Guli Berdy Mammadov favors.

The teacher, who is 42 years old, told "Agence France-Presse": "All we do is follow the instructions given to us."

And it has been used for a long time in the Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia to treat multiple diseases and alleviate scourge.

Indeed, in Turkmenistan, the name “Ioserlik”, meaning “medicine for 100 diseases,” is applied to this plant with a very strong smell.

It is witnessing a growing boom due to the epidemic.

In March, the President of Turkmenistan ordered the permanent fumigation of the portel, praising the plant's ability to eliminate bacteria and viruses.

Since the instructions were issued, the price of the package has increased five times, reaching 5 manat (1.17 euros).

Turkmenistan claims that it is one of the rare countries where the epidemic has not spread.

In neighboring Uzbekistan, the famous doctor Bahram Almatov confirmed, in local media, that "there is no direct effect" of the plant on the virus, despite its medicinal advantages.

The President of Turkmenistan is not the only leader in the world who declares, without any scientific evidence, the benefits of an alleged effective treatment against "Covid-19". In Africa in general and Madagascar in particular, many people resort to Artemisia.

The World Health Organization declined to comment on the alleged benefits of pregnancy, but pointed out that traditional medicine "has a long history in many countries, and is sometimes an important resource for health."

To ward off the threat of the emerging corona virus, health authorities recommend, before anything else, wearing a muzzle, observing social distancing, and washing hands regularly.

The matter necessitated a visit by a delegation from the World Health Organization in order to impose such measures and restrictions in the country, but the authorities confirm for their part that they have not registered any case of the disease at all, despite the announcement of the British ambassador to Turkmenistan that he had been infected with "Covid-19" .

Since the summer, non-food stores and restaurants have been closed, and train and bus traffic is limited.

Residents are required to wear masks in order to prevent "dust" and unknown "pathogens", according to the official statement of the authorities.

The World Health Organization did not criticize Turkmenistan's position, expressing its concern about the increase in pneumonia cases in the country during the summer, confirming that it had obtained permission to extract field samples and analyze them in laboratories.

However, the UN revealed that the implementation of this mission is "impossible", as it turned out.

Dried chunks

The promotion of harramal in Ashgabat led to the production of a series of products derived from the plant.

And last December, a company introduced pieces of dried capes that could be burned for 45 minutes.
