It all started with the teacher and theater fanatic Emily Jacobsen who made a song video on TikTok to pay tribute to the animated film Rataouille (2007).

Soon, thousands of users built on with their own playful song and dance numbers, costumes, scenographies and puppets, many of them experienced musical artists.

Started as a play - became a Broadway musical

Broadway discovered the game that had become a viral success and decided to put on a real musical.

First of January, Ratatouille: The Tiktok musical premieres, with singer and actor Titus Burgess in the lead role as the rat Remy who wants to become a star chef.

Titus Burgess is best known for his role as extravagant Titus Andromedon in the comedy series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, where he delivered many legendary musical numbers, including a parody of The Cats (long before the record-breaking film came out) and a comic wink to Beyoncé's song Hold up from the hit album Lemonade.

Ratatouille: The Tiktok musical premieres on January 1 on Broadway's digital platform for theater and musicals.

In the video, you can see how the musical took shape with the users' playful home videos.
