Fireworks cut off a French head during the celebration of 2021

A firecracker caused the beheading of a French man in eastern France, during New Year's celebrations, AFP reported Friday, citing officials in the Bas-Rhin region of the country.

Another man was injured in the accident, which occurred in Bufzheim, about 30 kilometers south of Strasbourg, near the German border.

Details of the accident are still vague.

According to the local newspaper "DNA", the firecracker did not initially explode when it caught fire, but it did explode when the two men approached it.

The sale and private use of fireworks has been banned in the region since the beginning of December in an effort to reduce the number of medical emergencies in a period when medical services are already under pressure due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The ban is scheduled to last until next Monday.
