As the New Year approaches, many departments have decided to ban the sale of alcohol in their territories.

A measure encouraged by the Minister of the Interior intended to limit disturbances to public order, as justified by several prefectures, reports France Bleu.

In the Pyrénées-Orientales, the sale of alcohol and its consumption on public roads have been prohibited from this Wednesday at 8 p.m. and until Friday morning at 8 a.m.

The prefecture thus intends to fight against “disturbances to public order and public tranquility”.

The prohibition on the sale of alcohol to take away only concerns so-called "strong" alcohol (over 18 °) of category IV and V for all establishments and traders.

Limit the circulation of the coronavirus

In Cantal, the sale of alcohol is prohibited from 12 noon this Thursday.

In Cher, Loiret and Rhône, the decision comes into effect at 5 p.m., and at 6 p.m. in Côtes-d'Armor, Manche and Mayenne,

In the Cher, the sale is prohibited until Saturday 6 am and in the Gard, "temporary drinking establishments" will not be able to sell alcohol until January 3 at 6 am.

In Ille-et-Vilaine, the sale of alcohol is prohibited from 4 p.m. this Thursday and until Friday at 2 p.m.

This department is the only one to have justified this decision by the coronavirus pandemic.

"Alcoholism, which leads to a relaxation of barrier gestures, could help accelerate the circulation of the virus", indicates the prefecture.

This Monday, Gérald Darmanin encouraged all departments to take such measures in order to limit the disturbances during the New Year.

The Minister of the Interior recommended to the prefectures to take “whenever possible” “orders for the sale of take-away alcohol” for New Year's Eve.
