The Food Safety Center (Center) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government announced on the 31st the November Food Safety Report. The results showed that about 19,300 completed food samples, except for the earlier Except for the 7 published samples, all the other samples passed the test, and the overall pass rate was 99.9%.

  A spokesperson for the center said that the center conducts microbiological testing on about 3,100 food samples, about 6,000 samples for chemical testing, and about 10,200 remaining samples (including about 10,000 samples from imported foods from Japan) for radiation level testing .

  The test samples include about 3700 samples of vegetables, fruits and their products; about 1000 samples of cereals and cereal products; about 1300 samples of meat, poultry and their products; about 3100 samples of milk, milk products and frozen desserts; about 2100 samples of aquatic products and their products; and about 8100 samples of other types of food (including beverages, baked goods and snacks, etc.).

  The results showed that among the approximately 19,300 food samples that had been tested, all but 7 samples passed the test, with an overall pass rate of 99.9%.

  The 7 unqualified samples were 2 fruit samples with excessive pesticide residues; one sample of chicken feet containing salmonella; one sample of soy milk containing excessive Bacillus cereus; one sample of chocolate jelly frosting with excessive preservative content; one A sample of caramel syrup containing no preservatives; and a sample of a prepackaged milk product with a non-compliant milk fat content.

  The center has followed up the unqualified samples, including notifying the involved merchants of the test results, instructing the merchants to stop selling the problematic food, and tracing the source of the problematic food.
