On the 31st in Tokyo, infection with the new coronavirus was confirmed for the first time in more than 1,000 people, and the rapid spread of the infection cannot be stopped.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government will repeatedly call for thorough countermeasures and will consider requesting the government to issue a state of emergency while assessing the status of infection.

In Tokyo, on the 31st of New Year's Eve, the number of confirmed infections exceeded 1,000 for the first time, reaching 1337, the highest number ever.

The number of people who were confirmed to be infected in Tokyo exceeded 60,000 in total, exceeding the highest number of days by 388 (* 12/26 = 949).

In Tokyo, the number of people just exceeded 50,000 on the 18th of last month, and in less than two weeks, the number has increased by another 10,000, and the rapid spread of the infection has not stopped.

Experts point out that as of the 31st, the number of hospitalized patients was the highest ever, and the number of seriously ill patients was also the highest after the state of emergency was lifted, experts point out that they are "faced with a crisis situation." There are concerns about further deterioration of the medical care provision system.

The city has repeatedly called for thorough infection prevention measures, such as refraining from going out and spending quietly at home during the year-end and New Year holidays, and not holding drinking parties, but no visible effect has been achieved yet.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government will consider future measures from the beginning of the new year with a view to requesting the government to issue a state of emergency while assessing the infection situation.
