The National Medicines Safety Agency announced Thursday that no "serious adverse effect" or "unexpected" had been identified in France since the start of the vaccination campaign on Sunday.

According to the drug agency, only pain at the injection site from fatigue has been reported.

"No serious" or "unexpected" side effects of the Covid-19 vaccine were observed in France after the first four days of vaccination, the National Medicines Safety Agency (ANSM) said on Thursday.

Since the start of the vaccination campaign on Sunday, less than 200 people in France have received the vaccine from Pfizer / BioNTech, the first to be available.

The side effects observed so far are in line with expectations.

"These non-serious side effects are mentioned in the leaflet" of the vaccine, specified the ANSM.

Localized pain and fatigue

She explains that only "pain" at the place where the injection is given and "fatigue" have been reported by some structures for the elderly where the vaccination has already taken place.

Details made by the ANSM in its first update on vaccine surveillance.

According to the strategy chosen by France, vaccination begins with some 750,000 residents of retirement homes as well as at-risk employees of these establishments (those over 65, those affected by other ailments, etc.) .

A "reinforced monitoring system"

For this vaccination campaign, a "reinforced surveillance system" was set up by the ANSM and the regional pharmacovigilance centers (CRPV), recalls the Agency.

"The CRPVs are in regular contact" with the establishments for seniors where the vaccination takes place.

"The purpose of these exchanges is to support these establishments in the monitoring of adverse effects, in particular to facilitate the immediate reporting of serious and / or unexpected adverse effects that may occur", continues the ANSM.

"This reinforced surveillance continues with new establishments which will begin vaccinations from next week. The ANSM, in conjunction with the CRPVs, will be able to communicate at any time if a safety signal is identified," she concludes.
