The British variant of the corona virus has reappeared in Baden-Württemberg.

The Ministry of Health reported two new cases on Thursday.

A couple from the Ortenau district is affected.

A test of the woman was positive for the virus variant on Wednesday.

She had apparently been infected from her partner, who fell ill after a business trip to the UK in December.

Since the woman had already tested positive for Corona before Christmas, the close contacts had already been released from quarantine.

The health authorities have now arranged for the close contacts to be tested again in order to minimize the risk of spread.

The new variant of the corona virus has also been detected in China for the first time.

The mutated virus was found in a 23-year-old from Shanghai, who entered from Great Britain on December 14, the Chinese health authorities said on Wednesday.

Numerous countries, including Germany, have already reported the occasional occurrence of the mutation.

Experts fear that the variant could be significantly more contagious than the original form of the coronavirus.

However, there is no evidence that the virus variant is more dangerous for individuals.
