Baden-Württemberg has complained to the neighboring state of Rhineland-Palatinate about increasing vaccination tourism.
According to the Ministry of Health, many people from the Rhineland-Palatinate border region in Baden-Württemberg register for vaccination because it is not yet possible for them.
In Baden-Württemberg, citizens have been able to make an appointment for a vaccination since December 27; in Rhineland-Palatinate, appointments should only start on January 4th.
The Stuttgart Minister Manne Lucha (Greens) fears an “uneven distribution of the scarce good vaccine”, as it is said in a letter to his Mainz colleague Sabine Bätzing-Lichtenthäler (SPD), which is available to the German Press Agency.
He asks to publicly call on the people of Rhineland-Palatinate to be patient and to refer to the appointment allocation in their own country.
"If there is a permanent imbalance, from my point of view we should also talk about a balance."
The vaccination centers in Baden-Württemberg have so far not turned away cross-border commuters, as the ministry said.
