A transition to the New Year under close surveillance.

The Minister of the Interior Gerald Darmanin asks the prefects to take measures to fight "as a priority" against "unauthorized gatherings" and "urban violence" by the end of the year, in particular during the night of New Year's Eve, in a note consulted this Tuesday by AFP.

"Priority must be given in the coming days to the fight against unauthorized gatherings and the phenomena of urban violence", writes the minister in this telegram sent Monday to representatives of the State.

Checks from 8 p.m.

He asks them to put in place “visible” control mechanisms as soon as the curfew comes into force at 8 p.m. and to concentrate the action of the police “in town centers and neighborhoods and sensitive areas most subject to these phenomena ”in order, he adds,“ to ensure the affirmation of the authority of the State at each point of the national territory ”.

On the evening of December 31, “100,000 police and gendarmes will be mobilized exceptionally,” Place Beauvau said.

Prohibit the sale of take-out alcohol

In his note, Gérald Darmanin also asks the prefects to take “whenever possible” “orders prohibiting the sale of fuel in transportable containers” or “the sale of alcohol to take away”.

He also calls for carrying out "control and awareness-raising operations" with "fireworks dealers" and to request requisitions from prosecutors to carry out "appropriate identity checks" and "vehicle searches" in order to " ensure that there is no transport of dangerous items likely to be used against the internal security forces ”.

Closure of public transport?

The minister also requires to "secure" the sites and to study the "possibility of closing all or part of public transport from 8 pm".

Regarding "underground parties", the instruction is to intervene "as soon as possible", "as soon as a gathering of this type is reported".

In addition to the verbalization of the participants, "you will seek primarily to identify the organizers", writes the Minister.

During the night from Saturday to Sunday, four people were arrested in Paris for having organized clandestine parties.

The proceedings were closed for three of them, only one will be judged.

The minister finally suggests not to communicate locally on the fires of vehicles, to "avoid any phenomenon of" competition "".
