  • The European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the High Authority for Health gave the green light last week to the marketing of the vaccine developed by the Pfizer and BioNTech laboratories.

  • The vaccination campaign therefore began Sunday in France in several establishments welcoming the elderly.

  • This campaign will take place in three phases and could accelerate with the marketing of new vaccines developed by other laboratories.

It is done !

Since Sunday, France has entered the first phase of its vaccine campaign against the coronavirus.

After a year 2020 marked by two epidemic waves and already two confinements of the population, the year 2021 should be marked by an intensification of vaccination.

After the green light given by the European and hexagonal health authorities, France can deploy its own calendar.

Presented to parliamentarians on December 16, this campaign will take place in three stages.

Who can be vaccinated and from when?

A first phase dedicated to nursing homes

In accordance with the recommendations made by the High Authority for Health (HAS), vaccination against Covid-19 is deployed as a priority in establishments for the elderly (Ehpad) from this week, and until the end of February.

Twenty-three establishments located in the regions of Paris, Lyon, Lille and Touraine will be affected this week, government sources said on Saturday.

A hundred nursing homes will then benefit from the vaccination in the first two weeks of January.

Residents are affected, as are the caregivers who work there.

This vaccination campaign aims to "reduce mortality and severe forms" of the disease, recalled the Directorate General of Health (DGS).

By the end of February, the government expects one million people vaccinated among the oldest and most vulnerable in the 7,000 nursing homes and other similar establishments.

An intensification from the end of February

Once the goal of one million people vaccinated is reached, the campaign will intensify.

From March, it will be extended first to people over 75 and then to "all retirees over 65," the government said.

The target, this time, is set at 15 million people vaccinated, especially those at risk related to age or chronic pathology.

Here again, the vaccine will be offered to health or medico-social personnel who fall into these age categories or who present a risk of comorbidities.

Third phase, the "time of mass vaccination"

Among the 50 million French people remaining to be immunized at the end of these first two phases, priority groups have, again, been identified for the third stage of the vaccination schedule.

People aged 50 to 64, "professionals in sectors essential to the functioning of the country in an epidemic period" (security, education, food), vulnerable and precarious people and those who take care of them, "people who live in confined accommodation or closed places ”can be vaccinated in the spring.

Our file on the coronavirus

"The rest of the adult population" will have to wait until the summer to be able to benefit from this vaccine.

Finally, minors are not the subject of recommendations because the most advanced clinical studies have not included this population.
