Laurent Wauquiez (LR) has made a political affair: the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region which he presides over launched a major campaign to screen for Covid-19 before the holidays.

Public Health France reported the results for the week of December 14 to 20, Le Progrès said.

And inevitably, they are not good since the number of people tested has tripled to more than 400,000 people per week.

In the Rhône department alone, 112,000 people were tested, and 4,441 were found to be positive, an incidence rate of 237 cases per 1,000,000 inhabitants.

This led Public Health France to note that "the screening brings to light viral circulation not detected until now", in particular asymptomatic cases.

Logical consequence also of these massive tests: the positivity rate fell from 8 to 4%.

The number of people urgently hospitalized for coronavirus increased last week, with 470 admissions compared to 420 a week earlier.

Finally, on December 24, 4,200 people were hospitalized due to Covid-19, including 434 in intensive care.
