Canal + he scored a goal against his camp by dismissing Stéphane Guy?

Yes with regard to + Libres, the first union of the audiovisual group, which this Monday, said to be "indignant and shocked" at the ousting of the sports commentator "both in substance and in form".

While the channel "has built its image and reputation, among other things on impertinence, caricature and self-mockery, this event shows the contempt of our management and our shareholder for these values," notes the union.

As a reminder, it had smelled of fir for a few weeks for Stéphane Guy, who had first been laid off.

On December 24, as a gift, his employer kicked him out.

The fault committed by the commentator?

Supporting comedian Sébastien Thoen.

The latter had himself been dismissed in early December for his participation in a parody targeting CNews, the Canal + group's news channel owned by Vivendi, billionaire Vincent Bolloré's group.

Stéphane Guy had a few days later paid tribute on the air to his “friend” Sébastien Thoen, believing that he did not have “the exit he would have deserved”.

An unacceptable tackle in the eyes of the management of Canal +.

"It is high time that our management protects our group"

"How can we claim freedom of expression and the plurality of speech at will when it comes to legitimizing certain presenters whose remarks have nevertheless won criminal convictions and inflict such a sanction on a historical journalist of the sports department for supporting a colleague?

», Asks this Monday + Free.

The union refers here to polemicist Eric Zemmour, pillar of CNews, convicted of inciting racial hatred at the end of September and currently being prosecuted for contesting a crime against humanity after having maintained on the air that Marshal Pétain had "saved" the French Jews.

The union points to "the governance problems" of the Canal + group and fears "other departures just as destructive of value and seriously damaging the image of the channel".

"It is high time that our management protects our group and its employees and decides to act for the common good and not the ideological or political interests of its shareholder", urges + Libres.

Thursday, the SDJ of Canal + was indignant, in a press release, of the ousting of Stéphane Guy.

Representatives of the group's editorial staff denounced an attack on freedom of expression.

Then, "because of the timing of the holidays and with a view to wider and more effective communication", they preferred to stop there for the moment.

Until the return match?
