The founder and director of the Al Ain Film Festival, Amer Salmin Al Marri, revealed the features of the third session of the festival, which will be held in Al Ain, under the patronage of Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, from 23 to 27 January 2021, under the slogan « Future cinema, ”stressing that the exceptional difficult circumstances imposed by the“ Covid-19 ”crisis, and its repercussions on the world, did not prevent filmmakers from participating in more than 378 films, and the new session will witness the launch of five initiatives to support and encourage filmmakers and cinema lovers.

Al-Marri explained that the festival's management was keen to organize the third session despite the exceptional conditions that the world experienced during 2020 due to "Covid-19" and still imposing its shadows and repercussions to this day, and has developed alternative plans to ensure compliance with the preventive measures, adding during the press conference held the day before yesterday. In Abu Dhabi, at the headquarters of the "Cinema Vision Films" company that organizes the festival, the fact that despite these circumstances, the festival received more than 378 films to participate in its competitions, which reflects the confidence and prestige it was able to achieve with filmmakers in the region.

Al-Marri indicated that nearly 80 films have been selected to compete in the official competitions, namely, “The Emirati Short Falcon,” “The Gulf Long and Short Falcon,” “The Falcon for Student Films,” and “The Falcon for Residents' Films,” in addition to the “Make Your film in the time of Corona »for the third session of the festival, which is a new initiative launched in the summer of 2020, which gives filmmakers the opportunity to benefit from the quarantine by filming a short film, with a duration of between three minutes and 15 minutes, revolving around the details of daily life under quarantine Imposed by the Corona pandemic, and the festival has allocated two prizes for this competition, the first for the best film, and the second for the best idea.

Screenplay competition

As for the second initiative announced by Al-Marri, it was represented in cooperation during this session with the Abu Dhabi Festival, one of the leading cultural events locally and internationally, as the festival's strategic cultural partner. Al Ain Cinema announced the opening of registration through its official website for a new competition entitled Abu Dhabi Film Festival for the Unimplemented Scenario aims at young Emirati authors to create a new generation of writers who can enrich local content with new topics presented to cinema. Three prizes have been allocated to it for the best three unimplemented scenarios for short films worth 20 thousand dirhams for each scenario with the support of the Festival Abu Dhabi, where “Al Ain Cinema” has prepared the conditions and regulations for participating in the competition. The winners will be disclosed in June 2021, after the evaluation and selection processes that will be conducted by a special jury for this competition consisting of a group of Arab filmmakers and writers, as the films are scheduled to be executed and produced during 2021, to be ready for showing in the fourth edition of the "Eye of Cinemas" in 2022.

Amer Salmeen Al-Marri revealed the festival’s third initiative in this year's edition, which is the “Farid Ramadan” award for the best screenplay for a long Gulf film, and was intended to encourage screenwriters, as well as a tribute to the spirit of the late Bahraini writer and screenwriter Farid Ramadan, who had a prominent presence in the first two sessions. For his part, the artistic director of the festival, Hani Al-Shaibani, said in a statement that the festival received a large number of films in all competitions, as the third session witnessed a significant increase in the number of participating films by 35% over the previous session, which confirms the importance of the festival in creating movement Cinematic in the UAE, and on the increase

Precautionary measures

Amer Al-Marri asserted that the festival's administration has developed, in return, a new plan that guarantees adherence to the necessary preventive and precautionary measures to ensure the health of the public and those in charge of the festival, as it has limited the capacity for absorption in the galleries to ensure physical distancing, in addition to holding some virtual events, similar to some international festivals. .
