The still significant contaminations and the anticipation of a new wave after the party push the government to consider all the hypotheses, and in particular that of a reconfinement.

If its terms are still unclear, the idea is gaining ground within the executive.

DECRYPTION

Despite the launch of the coronavirus vaccination campaign in France, we will not necessarily escape new restrictions after the holidays.

In

the Journal du Dimanche

, this week, the Minister of Health does not rule out a third confinement: "We will take the necessary measures if the situation were to worsen because we can not let the epidemic flare up again," says Olivier Véran.

Two hypotheses facing a third wave

The hypothesis seems in any case seriously under study.

New contaminations remain high, around 15,000 cases each day, as well as new hospitalizations, around 1,500 daily.

Not really the decline hoped for by the government: the target of 5,000 new cases per day set by the Head of State is moving away, as the Minister of Health recognized on Sunday in

the JDD.

Within the executive, we are therefore considering two hypotheses to deal with a third wave.

First possibility, a rather classic reconfinement with modalities which may change, in particular the return of certificates, the restriction of travel for non-professional reasons and generalized teleworking.

Second possibility, a hardening of the current measures by lowering, for example, the hours of the curfew and by imposing restrictions on the mixing of the population.

The question of reopening "non-essential" businesses

In all cases the thorny question of so-called "non-essential" businesses arises.

A fortiori

since the publication of the study by Professor Fontanet, which showed that a reopening of these establishments had no impact on the resumption of the epidemic.

Be that as it may, the possibility of a third re-containment is no longer taboo at all within the government.

Several ministers are also wondering if this third wave has not already started.
