While the first doses of the vaccine arrived in France this Saturday, the schedule should be similar in Spain.

The goal is to vaccinate 4.5 million people within three months.

On site, the doctors and caregivers show their relief.

The delivery of the vaccine against Covid-19 is done under high security in Spain with the help of the police and the army, it is a question of avoiding theft or sabotage.

The first vaccination will take place on Sunday morning in a retirement home in Guadalajara near Madrid.

"This is very, very good news, it's a real Christmas present," enthuses Doctor Octavio Salmeron, an emergency physician in Madrid, visibly relieved.

"In the coming weeks, as the English have done, only a small part of the population will be vaccinated," continues Octavio Salmeron.

An elderly man will receive the first dose in front of cameras across the country.

"We are trying to make it as efficient as possible, that is to say start with the most vulnerable and the most exposed people."

10% of the population vaccinated within three months?

Each week 350,000 people will be vaccinated.

The elderly and nursing staff therefore have priority.

The government's goal is to vaccinate 4.5 million people within three months, or 10% of the population.

"You have to be aware that this is a real logistical challenge," says Octavio Salmeron.

The vaccine is not compulsory but according to polls, those who refuse it are in the minority.

The head of government, Pedro Sanchez, will not imitate some heads of state: he will be vaccinated, but away from the cameras.
