The Ministry of Health has registered about 21,000 deaths from

coronavirus

since September, which means that 40% of the deaths officially reported in the entire pandemic correspond to the last three months.

The death rates from

the National Epidemiology Center

reflect an excess of deaths of 17% since July.

Spain accumulates around 50,000 deaths registered by

Covid-19

since the start of the

pandemic

.

Of these, about 21,000 correspond to the last three months, after a summer in which, thanks to strict confinement, barely 5,000 deaths were registered.

In the first wave, around 25,000 people died, according to the official reports of the Center for the Coordination of Health Alerts and Emergencies, which only account for those deaths with an obvious diagnosis of

coronavirus

.

According to the

National Epidemiology Center's

Daily Mortality Monitoring System

(MoMo), there are two clear periods in which more people have died than would have lost their lives in a normal period.

Between March 10 and May 9 there were an excess of 44,599 deaths, of which 37,227 were over 74 years old.

This is 67% more deaths than expected.

The second period of excess mortality is recorded between July 20 and December 20.

In this time, there have been 26,464 more deaths than in a normal period, which represents 16.8% more deaths than expected.

Based on data from the

National Epidemiological Surveillance Network

(Renave), from May 10 to December 22, 1.6 million cases of

coronavirus

have been identified

, of which 1.3% have died, which is equivalent to to about 21,000.

6.1% were hospitalized and 0.5% had to be referred to the ICU due to their severity.

Now,

Spain

faces the Christmas holidays with an upward transmission (around 300 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 14 days), although with an eye to the vaccines that will begin to be supplied to the vulnerable population this same Sunday, when they will be injected the first doses of

Pfizer

and

BioNTech

.

Between the weeks of November 30 to December 6) and December 7 to 13, the transmission increased 12%.

The most frequent field of transmission of the virus occurs in the environment of the home (33.3%), which makes these Christmas holidays especially dangerous.
