On December 23, the National Health Commission issued the "Report on Nutrition and Chronic Disease Status of Chinese Residents (2020)".

At the press conference held by the State Council Information Office that day, Li Bin, deputy director of the National Health Commission, and others introduced the report.

  1. Higher and higher!

The average height of an adult male in China is nearly 1.7 meters

[Concurrent] Li Bin, Deputy Director of the National Health Commission

The average height of residents continues to grow.

The average height of men and women aged 18-44 in my country is 169.7 cm and 158 cm respectively, an increase of 1.2 cm and 0.8 cm respectively compared with 2015.

The heights of boys and girls aged 6-17 have increased by 1.6 cm and 1 cm respectively in each age group.

  2. Getting fatter!

Half of Chinese adult residents are overweight or obese

[Concurrent] Zhao Wenhua, Chief Expert of Nutrition, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention

The results of this round of monitoring show that over 50% of adult residents in my country are overweight and obese, close to 20% of children and adolescents aged 6-17, and 10% of children under 6 years of age.

Therefore, the rapid rise in overweight and obesity, the high prevalence level, and the impact of the entire population can be used to describe the current population's overweight and obesity situation, which also indicates that this work will face a huge challenge.

Overweight and obesity are also malnutrition.

At the same time, overweight and obesity are also important risk factors for chronic diseases such as cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, diabetes and various cancers.

  3. Live longer!

Chronic disease premature death rate declines, cancer 5-year survival rate rises

[Concurrent] Li Bin, Deputy Director of the National Health Commission

The premature mortality rate of major chronic diseases has decreased year by year, and the labor loss caused by chronic diseases has been significantly reduced.

In 2019, the premature mortality rate of Chinese residents due to four types of major chronic diseases, including cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases and diabetes, was 16.5%, a decrease of 2 percentage points compared with 18.5% in 2015. 10.8%.

[Concurrent] He Jie, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Director of National Cancer Center

The issue of cancer survival rate has attracted much attention from society.

In fact, the 5-year cancer survival rate in my country has risen from 30.9% to 40.5% in the past ten years, an increase of nearly 10%.

  4. Changing lifestyles to prevent and control chronic diseases

[Concurrent] Chang Jile, Director of the Bureau of Disease Control and Prevention, National Health Commission

The first is alcohol and tobacco.

We propose to quit smoking and restrict alcohol, but our country is still the country with the highest number of smokers and smoking rate in the world.

Another example is a reasonable diet.

At least eat more than 12 kinds of things every day, including staple food, non-staple food, fruits, nuts, etc., should be no less than 25 kinds a week.

  Another example is physical activity.

For example, exercise for more than 150 minutes a week, or 3 times (per week) for more than 30 minutes each time.

  Another example is psychological stress.

In fact, we can completely put down our mobile phones and turn off the computer in the future, and we can communicate more face to face.
